What you learn
Measured, made and priced.
You leave able to survey a window, calculate fabric, brief a workroom and quote the job without guessing.
Measuring and fabric calculation
Surveying windows and beds, allowing for fullness, pattern repeat, hems and returns. The arithmetic that decides whether the job makes money.
Curtains and headings
Pinch, wave, eyelet and pelmets. Linings and interlinings, and what each does to the way a curtain hangs.
Blinds
Roman, roller and panel. Where each belongs, and how to specify a mechanism that will still work in five years.
Upholstery and cushions
Frames, fillings and finishes. Piping, borders and trims, and choosing a fabric that survives its end use.
Bed dressing
Layering a bed so it photographs and still functions. Scale, texture and the discipline of restraint.
Sourcing, pricing and the business
Where to find the best fabrics, how to work with a workroom, and how to quote — materials, labour and margin.
Design for people. Design for place.
Fabric is where an interior is touched. It is also where a scheme is most often let down.
How it runs
Timetable
Taught on campus in belts, as the Certificate runs. Days and times confirmed at enrolment.
Practical
Hands-on throughout. Every session ends in something measured, cut, made or costed.
Assessment
Portfolio-based — a set of pieces and a costed specification.
